When to winterize your sprinkler system in the GTA
In the GTA most homeowners winterize between early October and early November. The goal is to finish before overnight temperatures stay below freezing long enough to freeze water in shallow lines and the backflow.
Watch the forecast, not the calendar
A few light frosts usually won't damage buried lines, but exposed parts like the backflow preventer can crack after one hard freeze. Book once nights start dipping near zero.
Book early
Fall schedules fill quickly. Booking in September or early October gets you a slot before the first hard freeze.
Common questions
- Is it too early to winterize in September?
- You'll lose a few weeks of watering, but it's safe. Late October is the most common window.
