When to turn your sprinklers on in spring in Ontario
Most GTA systems are started between late April and mid-May, once the ground has thawed and the risk of a hard overnight freeze has passed.
Signs it's time
Check for these before starting up:
- The ground has thawed and the soil isn't frozen below the surface
- Overnight lows are staying above freezing
- Your lawn is starting to grow
Start slowly
Open the supply gradually so a pressure surge doesn't crack fittings, then run each zone and check for leaks or broken heads.
Common questions
- What does a spring startup include?
- Turning the water on slowly, checking the backflow, running every zone, adjusting heads and setting the controller schedule.
